Alex Maciver, born in Sydney 1985, is a Perth based artist, curator and writer. Since graduating with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee University UK in 2007, he has been actively involved with many artist-run initiatives, events and festivals both in Australia and overseas.
Through painting, collage, film and installation, Maciver often uses humour to challenge preconceived notions and their impact on thinking and behaviour. In 2019, Maciver is focussing on developing a series of artworks that question societal attitudes towards work ethic, privilege and social class. In exploring cultural identifiers in fashion and developing trends, Maciver’s current research is focused on questioning the stereotyping of individuals and how it affects decision making along with identifying the signifiers of class.
In 2013, Maciver won the Fremantle Print Award and in 2014 won FilmFreo24. His works features in many public and private collections, including City of Fremantle Collection WA.
